For thousands of years, Basenjis have served as hunting dogs for various African peoples, but they have also won the hearts of many Westerners.

#2 Dogs resembling Basenjis are depicted on the tombs of Egyptian Pharaohs dating back to 3600 BC.
#3 Basenjis originated in the African Congo where they are still used by pygmies to hunt lions.
#4 While Basenjis are known as the African barkless dog, they are by no means silent.
#5 They are usually very quiet but can go crazy when they are happy to see you.
